Privacy Policy

Relay uses information to run accounts, communities, messages, and safety features. This page explains the information the service currently handles.

Information you provide

Account setup asks for a username, email, date of birth, and password. Relay stores a password hash, not the password itself. You may add a display name, avatar, banner, bio, custom profile content, communities, and uploaded images. Messages, direct messages, roles, reports, and moderation actions are stored to provide their features.

Information created when you use Relay

Relay uses a session cookie to keep you signed in and processes connection and activity information to run the service, protect accounts, and display online status while the app is active. The app sends presence updates while the tab is visible. A hidden or disconnected session becomes offline after a short inactivity window. The server may keep operational logs needed for reliability and security.

How information is used and shared

Relay uses your information to authenticate accounts, deliver and verify email, display profiles and messages, manage communities, support moderation, and prevent misuse. Your profile and content may be visible to other members according to the spaces and settings you use. Moderators and staff may see information needed to enforce community and service rules. Hosting and email delivery providers process data as needed to operate Relay.

Your choices

You can edit account and profile details, choose a presence mode, and control what you share in communities. You can ask Relay staff in the app for help with access, correction, or deletion of your information. Content you shared with others may also be subject to moderation records or other operational needs.

Young users

Relay registration is for people age 13 or older. If you believe an account belongs to someone under 13, alert Relay staff in the app.

Changes and questions

This policy can change as Relay changes. The effective date above will be updated when the policy changes. Contact Relay staff in the app with privacy questions.
